Clifton Basses & Guitars is a South East London based one man lutherie, specialising in the design and manufacture of electric stringed instruments.
Output is currently around eight instruments per year with any remaining time being spent on repairs and set-ups. The main principle of the business is of making life easier for working musicians through the use of ergonomic design, high quality materials and good craftsmanship.
Mo Clifton specialises in designing and making bass guitars and upright basses but he has also produced several guitars, cellos, a solid bodied saz, a mandolin and various 'gizmos' to solve particular problems.
Over the past 15 years, Mo has made more than a hundred and fifty instruments for many fine musicians and has repaired and set up more than two thousand. Several ‘famous’ customers use Clifton instruments but are not mentioned here for fear of omission. Mo services the needs of many of the guitarists and bassists at the Trinity College of Music at Greenwich and has a good working relationship with local guitar teachers and shops.
